Vastan Lignite Mine

Vastan Lignite Mine, a project of GIPCL covers a mining lease area of 1536 Ha and lies between Latitude 21°22’27” to 21°26’42” and Longitude 73°5’13” to 73°8’47”. The mining area falls in Mangrol Taluka of Surat District. It is approx. 50 Km. away from Surat and 40 Km. from Ankleshwar (Dist. Bharuch). The site can be approached from N.H. 8 connecting Bombay-Ahmedabad via Kim

Vastan Lignite Mine is divided in two pits namely Vastan North Pit and Vastan South Pit. Vastan North Pit is already exhausted in the year June, 2012 and presently GIPCL is operating Vastan Lignite Mine-South Pit.

Vastan Lignite Mine has received National Safety Awards for the years 2004, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2017, in Lowest Injury Frequency Rate (LIFR) Per Million Cubic Meter of Output.

Vastan Limestone Mine

Vastan Limestone Mine, a project of GIPCL covers a mining lease area of 80.00 Ha out of 1536 Hectare of Vastan Lignite Mine. It contains Low Grade Limestone deposits as Overburden (overlaying layer) of lignite deposits.

Vastan Limestone Mine lies between Latitude 21° 22' 57" to 21° 24' 41" and Longitude 73° 05' 26" to 73° 06' 22". The mining area falls in Mangrol Taluka of Surat District. It is approx. 50 Km. away from Surat and 40 Km. from Ankleshwar (Dist. Bharuch). The site can be approached from N.H. 8 connecting Bombay-Ahmedabad via Kim.

To use this Low grade Limestone for controlling Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) emission in the Power Plant, GIPCL was granted approval for inclusion of mineral Limestone in the existing Mining Lease of Lignite, by the Ministry of Steel & Mines, Govt. of India, vide letter no. 4/65/98.M IV dated 08-09-1998.
